I photograph children of all ages but I feel the age that is generally missed is the sitting milestone - which is why I offer sitter session’s with very reasonable rates!
Sitter sessions are an incredibly important part of child photography, it’s a milestone that everyone is excited about. It’s that time when what once was your tiny curled up baby is now a nearly a toddler who’s able to sit on their own! Although quite scary, they’ve finally got their first bit of independence.
Sitter sessions can take place once your baby is confidently sitting without any supporting aids or help. Every baby does this at their own pace and can be anytime between 6-9 months of age, or earlier if you’ve got a strong, independent early learner on your hands!
What I love most about sitter sessions is that not only have your little one finally learnt how to sit by themselves, they’re also at that time in their lives where they are discovering how to control their facial expressions. Which as you know yourself can be absolutely hilarious. They’re finding their personality and are (mostly) happy to sit and let me capture it!
My sitter sessions usually last around an hour, I usually spend the first 15 or so minutes just talking to the parents and slowly interacting with the model for the day. This just gives the little one time to adjust to their surroundings so that they’re happy to be put down ready to begin. Some will take longer than others but everything is at their pace and nothing is rushed.
I’m a brand ambassador for Cotton and Twine Props so I have a gorgeous array of outfits to choose from, for both boys and girls and I have gender neutral options too! I try and keep my styling for sitter sessions quite minimalistic as I think it’s quite important to focus on the baby, which is after all what you’re trying to capture for your memories.
